We've named the Horse & Cow!

The 2007 fair poster featured a classic red pick-up truck stopped to let a hen and her chicks cross the road – answering the age-old question of why the chicken crossed the road. Clearly, to the Lucketts Fair!

The cartoon horse and cow have appeared in fair materials the past three years. This year, fair-goers had the opportunity to name the characters created by local artist Kaarin Nelson. Graphic artist Mary Gustafson of Daydream Design in Lucketts translates the original artwork into promotional materials.

And the winning names are…

The horse will be called “Lucky”—this was the clear winner over “Stumptown Joe” and “Selma”. It was a much closer contest for the cow—now called “Spinks Dairy” which just barely beat out “Sugarloaf Moo” and “St. Clairabell”.

Since 1972, the small village of Lucketts has welcomed visitors to enjoy a weekend in the country jam-packed with crafts, bluegrass music, antiques, down-home food and old-fashioned fun for the whole family.

The Old Lucketts School, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, serves as the backdrop for this genuine, old-fashioned country fair held each August in beautiful Loudoun County, Virginia. Fair proceeds help restore and maintain the Old Lucketts School building and fund preschool and camp scholarships as well as an English for Families program.
